On the evening of Wednesday, January 18th 2017, volunteers from Tappan responded Mutual Aid in to Norwood for a structure fire. Initially called for an Engine with manpower, the request was then changed for a FAST (Firefighter assist and search team) response post-dispatch. During response, members of the FAST team were alerted to a possible "Mayday" situation involving one firefighter and a reported collapse inside the dwelling. Fortunately, the situation was handled without any assistance required, and the firefighter exited the structure with minimal injuries. Upon arrival, the FAST team set up near the front of the structure with any equipment that could be necessary to extract a possible victim. Fortunately, the services of the FAST team was not required, and the fire was mostly extinguished without any issues. Once the situation was under control, the FAST team from Tappan began to assist in overhaul inside the structure, while extinguishing any hot spots found.
It was found that the fire had started in the boiler room area of the townhouse style structure, which then spread through the walls and in to the attic. All units from Tappan were released from the scene about 3 hours after the initial call.
