It was a Sunday morning around 07:50 hrs, when Tappan FD was toned out for a vehicle extrication on Rte. 303. Within minutes Assistant Chief Werner (21-2) was on scene and discovered the incident was actually off the roadway of route 303, a few hundred feet into a ditch. Capt. Holihan (21-3) confirmed 2 parties unconscious inside the vehicle requiring extrication. Assistant Chief Werner ordered 1st due arriving unit 21-1501 to stretch a precautionary hand-line along with the portable Hurst tools to begin extrication. 21-Rescue followed into the scene and was instructed by command, Chief Simms (21-1), to assist the 1501 crew with removal of the doors and roof with the "Jaws of Life." TFD crews worked with EMS to stabilize and remove both victims from the vehicle, up-hill to the roadway, whereby the awaiting ambulance transported them to the hospital. Understanding the severity of the injuries of the victims, all units on scene worked quickly and effectively to remove and rescue the parties trapped.
