On the afternoon of April 21, 2016, the volunteers of Tappan were alerted for a fire in the vicinity of Western Hwy. On arrival Asst. Chief Holihan (21-2) confirmed a backhoe on fire with extension into the mulch pile in the surrounding area. Asst. Chief Holihan had 21-1501 and 21-1500 each stretch 1 handline to extinguish the fire, and had crews assisting from 21-1250 and 21-EQ to assist in overhauling the area. Due to the smoke condition from the call, our neighboring Dept. 11 was dispatched for smoke in the area, which turned out to be the same incident. As a result, Dept. 11 also assisted in cleaning up the brush area. All units were released by Incident Command Chief Werner (21-1) just under an hour from the initial call.
