On Sunday afternoon, Tappan F.D. was dispatched for a reported flooding condition at a residential home . En-route during dispatch Assistant Chief Werner (21-2) was notified that the caller was reporting over 6 feet of water in the basement. The fire dept. responds to many minor flooding condition calls during the year, but rarely with this much water already on the ground. Needless to say, this wasn't the routine flooding call. Assistant Chief Werner confirmed over 6 feet of water in the basement, with utilities compromised and water leaking throughout the house on all floors of the house. Lt. Abraham and crew were able to locate and cut-off the source which was a broken pipe on the second floor. Although the damage was already done, crews worked tirelessly on scene for over 2 hours to pump out the basement and secure the rest of the home. These type of incidents continue to show the countless hours the volunteers put into serving their communities no matter what the emergency may be. Great work by all.
