By Engineer Kevin Quinn
November 27, 2015

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Life Member and EX-Chief Leonard "Lenny" Sullivan. Please keep the Sullivan family in your thoughts and prayers!

Leonard “Lenny” Sullivan died suddenly on Thanksgiving morning, November 26, 2015. Lenny was born in Nyack, NY on October 19, 1965 and was a lifelong resident of Tappan, NY. Lenny graduated from Tappan Zee High School in 1983. Lenny was a master carpenter and a trained stationary engineer who was an active member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #68. Most recently, Lenny worked as Manager of Facilities for the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University in Palisades, NY.
Lenny served his community as a proud member, and former chief of the Tappan Fire Department for over thirty years. He also served as a past president of the Orangetown Fire Chiefs’ Council. Lenny recently joined the Knights of Columbus and was a devoted Catholic and lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church.
Lenny married the love of his life Barbara (Quinn) Sullivan on October 18, 1996.
Lenny is survived by his loving wife, Barbara and his three beautiful daughters, Tara, Erin and Deirdre who meant the world to him. Lenny is also survived by his parents, Patrick and Kathleen (Giblin) Sullivan of Tappan NY, and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Patrick and Theresa (Moran) Sullivan of New City, NY, Brian and Cindy (Roper) Sullivan of Eagan, MN and Joseph and Jennifer (O’Brien) Sullivan of Tappan, NY. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Noreen Quinn of Tappan, NY, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ann Marie and Kenneth Hallock of Tappan, NY, Michael and Helen (Baer) Quinn of West Nyack, NY and Mary and Frank Shine of Pearl River, NY.
Always with a smile on his face, Lenny will be most remembered for his kindness and generosity to others. When something was broken or if anyone needed help or advice, Lenny was the first person his friends and family would call. He was always first to lend a helping hand and he gave freely of his time and many talents. Those who were fortunate to befriend Lenny had a loyal and trusted friend for life. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all of his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, countless number of friends and anyone lucky enough to have known him.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 29th 1-8pm at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale, NJ. (201-767-3050). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Monday, November 30th at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan, NY. Burial will follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill, NY.

In keeping with Lenny’s giving spirit, memorial donations may be made to the Tappan Firemen’s Welfare Fund 123 Washington St. Tappan NY 10983
